How to verify a Facebook domain with DNS TXT and troubleshoot it

You can verify a domain through DNS, an HTML file or a meta tag. For DNS, you need the panel that currently serves the domain records. That is not always the registrar, so check where the domain is delegated first.
The main guide: Facebook account trust and security.
Find the right access first
You need the relevant Meta business settings and access to the domain’s DNS. Ask the website maintainer who currently serves DNS. That may be different from the company where the domain was purchased.
Meta offers several domain-verification methods. This guide uses TXT, which can be convenient when you control DNS but do not want to edit the landing page.
Add the record
- Open domains in the relevant business portfolio and select your domain, without a URL scheme or page path.
- Choose DNS verification and copy the entire TXT value from Meta.
- Create a separate TXT record at the active DNS provider. Follow that provider’s instructions for the root name, often @ or an empty field.
- Save it, allow the DNS update to become visible and return to Meta to verify.
Use Meta’s domain instructions to obtain the record. Copy the value from your own business, not a tutorial screenshot.
If Meta cannot find verification
| Check | Possible issue |
|---|---|
| Active DNS provider | The record was added at a provider no longer serving the domain |
| Record name | It was created on the wrong subdomain |
| Value | A character is missing or the wrong value was copied |
| DNS visibility | The change is not yet visible externally |
| Business and domain | You are verifying a different portfolio or domain |
Ask the administrator to check whether the TXT record is publicly visible. If another business has verified the domain, identify its administrator and the reassignment process through Meta.
Keep the domain, business ID, date and responsible DNS contact in your records. I treat that as ordinary advertising infrastructure preparation. Domain verification does not set up conversion events or promise creative approval; check those separately.
Save the domain, business ID, verification date and DNS contact. Then check website events and ad settings separately.
